Ms Teenah Jutton is a former Member of the National Assembly of Mauritius whose personal motto is rooted in service and impact. Guided by the belief that “Leadership is about influencing lives” — inspired by John Maxwell — she has dedicated her career to public service, advocacy, and empowering communities at both national and international levels.

During her five-year tenure as a Parliamentarian, she served as an Executive Member of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Africa and as a Board Member of Young Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). In these roles, she actively contributed to high-level global discussions, championing issues such as climate change, peace, gender equality, youth empowerment, inclusion, and the unique challenges faced by Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

As a legislator, she played an active role in the adoption of landmark legislations including the Children’s Bill, Disability Bill, Cybercrime & Cybersecurity Bill, Climate Change Bill, Emerging Technologies Bill, Environment Bill, and several others—helping shape a more inclusive and future-ready Mauritius.

Parliamentary Leadership & Governance

During her five-year tenure as a Parliamentarian, Ms Jutton played an active role at both national and international levels.

She served as:

  • Executive Member – Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), Africa

  • Board Member – Young Parliamentarians, Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU)

  • Member – Gender Caucus of Mauritius

She actively contributed to high-level discussions and international forums, advocating for Small Island Developing States (SIDS), climate action, peace, gender equality, youth empowerment, and inclusion.

She contributed to the adoption of key legislations including:

  • Children’s Bill

  • Disability Bill

  • Cybercrime & Cybersecurity Bill

  • Environment & Climate Change Bills

  • Emerging Technologies Bill

  • Institute of Technical Education Bill

Delivering Results on the Ground

As Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS), Ms Jutton oversaw and delivered over 500 infrastructure and community projects within her constituency.

Her work included:

  • Flood mitigation and major drainage projects

  • Construction of roads, mini-soccer pitches, and football grounds

  • Water reservoirs and pipe-laying to address water shortages

  • Coastal protection and erosion-mitigation works

She was directly involved from problem analysis and expert consultation to design, implementation, monitoring, and reporting, ensuring transparency, efficiency, and sustainability.

Governance, Accountability & Public Service Delivery

Accountability has been central to Ms Jutton’s approach to leadership and governance. As Parliamentary Private Secretary, she chaired weekly regional taskforces to monitor projects, address bottlenecks, and ensure timely and effective delivery.

She also chaired Regional Customer Support Unit (CSU) Taskforces, strengthening institutional accountability by ensuring that public authorities responded promptly and transparently to citizens’ concerns.

Through these mechanisms, she contributed to improved service delivery, reinforced public trust, and strengthened governance at the grassroots level.

Global Leadership & International Engagement

Ms Jutton’s leadership extends beyond national borders. She is a Young Raisina Fellow of the Observer Research Foundation (India) and has actively contributed to high-level international platforms addressing global policy challenges.

Her participation includes:

  • The Raisina Dialogue (India)

  • COP28 Pre-Conference (Abu Dhabi)

  • The Cape Town Conversation

  • The Budapest Dialogue (2024)

She is also a member of the Women Political Leaders Forum, where she led discussions on Artificial Intelligence and Gender.

Recognised by the United Nations as a Young Influential Leader, Ms Jutton was invited to the UN Summit in New York (2022). In 2024, she was a Distinguished Guest Speaker on International Women’s Day, invited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brussels, where she spoke against technology-facilitated gender-based violence.

Ms Teenah Jutton is a recipient of the MIPAD Award for Most Influential Politician Under 40 of African Descent and is a member of the Women Political Leaders (WPL) Forum, where she led an international panel on Artificial Intelligence and Gender.

She is a Young Raisina Fellow (Observer Research Foundation, India) and has participated in major global forums including:

  • The Raisina Dialogue (India)

  • COP28 Pre-Conference (Abu Dhabi)

  • The Cape Town Conversation

  • The Budapest Dialogue (2024)

She was recognized by the United Nations as a Young Influential Leader and invited to the UN Summit (New York, 2022). She has also served on high-level UNFPA panels advocating against Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence, sharing her personal journey to drive global action.

Investing in People & the Next Generation

A passionate advocate for youth, education, and gender equality, Ms Jutton supports SDGs 4 and 5. She served as a University Lecturer, promoted STEM education, and conducted research on increasing women’s participation in ICT, supported by the Tertiary Education Commission.

She has coached and mentored young leaders through the National Leadership Engine (NLE) Programme under the National Productivity and Competitiveness Council (NPCC).

Ms Jutton is also a Motivational Speaker and a founder member of the John Maxwell Speakers Club (Mauritius), speaking at educational institutions and international platforms to inspire and empower young people.
